EUROPEANS 2023

Dernière mise à jour : 19 oct. 2023

The European Championships 2023 in Portsmouth, UK, was a rollercoaster of challenges and lessons, a journey that truly tested my skills and determination as a rider. The unpredictable British weather added an extra layer of excitement to the competition, reshaping our plans and forcing us to adapt on the fly.

Confronting the Elements: Originally slated for three days of qualifications, the event faced an unexpected twist as wind conditions peaked at over 35 knots for two consecutive days. To ensure safety, organizers decided to give us two days off, creating a whirlwind of anticipation and suspense.

Making the Most of a Single Qualification Day: With only one day of qualifications left, I knew I had to seize every opportunity. In the challenging conditions, I managed to complete two proper races, showcasing my skills and determination. But, as sports often remind us, one wrong decision can be the turning point.

Navigating a Costly Decision: A decision I made during one of the races ultimately cost me valuable points, preventing me from securing a spot in the gold fleet by a narrow margin. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but in sports, setbacks often lead to the most significant comebacks.

Racing in Silver Fleet with Champions: Competing in the silver fleet was a unique experience, as I found myself surrounded by some of the best riders who usually dominate the gold fleet. Despite the initial disappointment, I was invigorated by the prospect of racing among these champions and absorbing their expertise.

Embracing the Learning Curve: Being among riders of such caliber was a valuable learning experience. I was determined to make the most of this opportunity, absorbing insights and strategies from those who had navigated the highs and lows of competitive foiling.

Proud to Finish 23rd: In the end, I finished the Europeans 2023 in the 23rd position. While it may not have been the podium finish I had hoped for, I left Portsmouth with a treasure trove of experiences, lessons, and inspiration. It's in these moments of challenge and perseverance that true growth as an athlete occurs.

The European Championships 2023 in Portsmouth was a testament to the unpredictability of sports and the unyielding spirit of athletes. It was a journey of highs and lows, of adapting to the elements and learning from costly mistakes. I walk away from this event with my head held high, eager to use these experiences as stepping stones toward greater achievements in the world of foiling. The journey continues, and I can't wait to see where the wind takes me next! 🌬️🏄‍♂️ #EuropeanChampionships2023
